“A picture of somewhere you’ve been to”
Late last year we were taken on a glorious holiday to Lochmara Lodge, which is in the Queen Charlotte Sounds, for Fox’s Dad’s 50th birthday.
It was the first holiday I’d been invited on with his family and the first time I’d ever been to the Sounds, so it was a pretty huge weekend all ’round.
I had no idea what to expect from the place we were staying, all I’d been told was that we were miles from anywhere and to pack swimwear.
So it was seriously awesome to find out that Lochmara Lodge was home to the Marlborough Sounds Wildlife Recovery Centre as well as the Eco Artists New Zealand Trust. So there were a lot of things to do and see.
There were walking tracks all over the place.
We explored most of the island, finding things from instillation pieces to punga men; kunekune to alpacas; corrugated iron butterflies to hand made jewellery; green gecko to weka and some man-eating pukeko.
They had hammocks scattered around too, some 40 of them, so we made it our mission to find every single one before we went home.
You’ll be glad to know that we succeeded. We lay in most of them too. Including the seriously awesome double and family hammocks, which were huge!
In fact my only gripe with the weekend was that I didn’t have enough time to explore the island properly!
It’s okay though, Fox has agreed that we’re going back there at some point.
Also, because I’m a derpface and forgot to link to her last couple, here are the ever lovely Sofishie’s posts for Day 4 and Day 5.
Hopefully I remember to stay up to date with those cats from here on in!
